Is Colonial Wars free? Is it pay to win?

Free to play, and no. Everything Charter Marks buy — saved time, automation, cosmetics — sits on the same shelf for every player, and marks are earned by playing or topped up with affordable bundles. Nothing for sale makes a soldier fight harder or a wall stand longer.

Do I have to download anything?

No. It runs in any modern browser, and on a phone it installs as an app from the browser menu if you want an icon and push alerts.

Can I be attacked while I am asleep or offline?

Eventually, yes — the world keeps running, which is the game. But a new colony cannot be attacked at all for its first 4 days on a standard world, and after that a ramping size-ratio shield keeps much larger players off you while you grow.

What happens while I am offline?

Production continues, marches land, queues finish. Push notifications (optional) can wake your phone when an attack is incoming or a build completes.

Do I need an email address?

No — registration asks for a username and password only. Adding an email later is optional and enables password recovery and email alerts.

How long does a world last?

Until somebody wins it: hold enough of the map for long enough and the world closes with a winner. Losing everything is not the end either — a player down to one small colony can start again elsewhere.

What are the independent colonies?

Neutral settlements that grow their own buildings, train their own garrisons and send raids of their own. Early on they are your training ground; left alone they become a problem.

What are federations?

Player alliances with shared forums, coordinated operations, watchtowers and a shared progression track. Membership is capped, so numbers alone win nothing.

How many worlds are open right now?

7 worlds are running and 6 are open to new registrations. The homepage lists them live.
